Rep. Binay Slams Neglect, Desensitization to Media Violence |
Friday, 08 August 2008 |
The separate murders on Radio Mindanao Network journalists Dennis Cuesta and Martin Roxas in General Santos City and Roxas City respectively, prompted Makati Representative Mar-Len Abigail S. Binay to condemn the status quo of state neglect and desensitization when it comes to media violence in the country.
“I am very alarmed because media victims are piling up like a long queue at the MRT during rush hour. No thanks to government’s lack of concrete action for past incidents, even the people have become desensitized to such atrocities. The media keeps on reporting these acts of violence but it seems we’ve come to a point where it’s as though no one cares anymore. Has media violence become a normal thing already that people paid more attention when it was announced that the cost of text messaging will be reduced in half?” says Rep. Binay.

Rep. Abby Aims for a More Affordable E-Jeep |
Wednesday, 02 July 2008 |
Now that the Land Transportation Office has approved the operation of electricity-powered jeepneys in Makati City last Tuesday, 2nd District Representative Mar-len Abigail S. Binay is keen on finding ways to make the E-Jeep more accessible and affordable for the people.
"With the price of oil increasing everyday, I believe that the E-Jeep is a welcome treat for all of us," remarks Rep. Abby.
The E-Jeep, dubbed as E-PHUV or the Electric Philippine Utility Vehicle, aims to decrease air pollution in the Philippines with its use of electricity as its source of power instead of petroleum. The Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (MVPMAP) calculates that the E-Jeep can run for eight hours at a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour and at a cost of only PhP1.76 per kilometer. Best of all, one only needs to charge it in an electric socket.
